Quickbooks online

Self discipline more….

Before I give you my list of really good online tools that I promise will assist you to work remotely, I must write about one more issue related to self discipline and especially to do with keeping your focus and powers of concentration

I’ve identified and verified a common behavior in members of both sexes who work online and I’ve known for quite a long time and I call this trait the fifty minute rule. I uncovered these people who apply themselves and work for 50 minutes and then take a whole 10 mins. break and are a significant order of magnitude more efficient and generate a considerably higher quality of work than contacts who don’t have set working practises.

OK as promised for your consideration is my list of favourite remote working web applications:

E-Mail

Google Mail has a price tag of zero. My friends and I all agree the search & label (a bit like folders) functions are the best implementation I have encountered. Googlemail can be a little slow on aging PC’s

Phone calls

Skype
continually perplexed me as the service stability was appalling, but all credit to the developers at Skype now as they have substantially changed the quality of the service. For meagre amount of money a quarter Skype lets me call and conference in any telephone and Skype subscriber on Earth. The latest edition of Skype has a ton of excellent functions and there is an ever growing list of practical add ons.

Organising Content

Evernote
has reached over a million users in a very short space of time – it enables you to store, organise and annotate any species of digital content up on the Internet. Just go check it out…it’s free.

Invoicing, Time and Expenses capture, Accounting and CRM

You surely know that my dream to work remotely was originally motivated by Quickbooks Online, a small business accounting software web application. But it is no match for the free edition of salesorder.com – a lead to cash system that’s as easy to use as a hairbrush I looked at NetSuite whose pricing (and people) scared me off. My choice here is salesorder.com – Go check it out.

What I have learned about working online – Part 1

NetSuite Login

I am repeatedly amazed by the volume of retired people who are now turning to the web to pay the bills and make money. I operate a series of contrasting e-commerce concerns which as a group give me a better monthly income than I was able to earn having a full time job. My working day is about the same but I do not have wade through the traffic each day any longer, giving me more leisure time. I am much happier with my life and what’s more I am earning a better income.

Building a multitude firms is fulfilling, but I have had to figure out methods of being more structured and working smarter. To record the details of my buyers and the financial performance of my companies, I use a selection of tools – you should buy high quality small business management software to to save you time and let you focus finding and servicing customers. I own a Quickbooks login and a NetSuite login. I can use these web sites from where I choose to work and they make it possible for me to oversee all of the customer and financial events as they happen.

From my NetSuite login I am able to oversee all of the events on my e-commerce systems and monitor the outcomes of my Google Adwords groups that bring customers to my e-stores. I have thrown out Microsoft Office which has been superceded by a Google Account containing all of the software I need, like e-mail, word processing and spreadsheets. I can make use of these packages from just about any location.

I really have improved my knowledge, I have found a wealth of free and low cost information which I have readily studied. One of the most invaluable lessons I have learned is how to recognize and sub contract time consuming operations, to businesses who can do this faster and cost effectively. I can precisely identify the moment at which I surpassed my income target to my realising of the advantages of outsourcing some of the work absorbing most of my time, to me increasing my cashflow to beyond that of my wages whilst in full time employment.

In Part 2, I cover the detail about how I leverage my time.

Remote Working Part 2 – The art of working smarter

Quickbooks online

The number one reason individuals fail to succeed at working remotely is they fail to see the criticality of having good quality organisation and sustainable self discipline.

I have been working remotely for more than six years since I first discovered Quickbooks online an ‘on demand’ small business accounting software service and was inspired by the fact that if you can perform accounting online then why shouldn’t it be workable to perform other important types of work at a distance?

Whilst working remotely has significant advantages there are numerous things that workers don’t realise which turn into issues that result in decreased productivity and reduced morale. The most significant reason for decreases in effectiveness in remote professionals is distraction and it is a proven and well known fact that it can take a person up to 20 mins to establish their original output level after experiencing a distraction.

Research also shows that persons who are consistently subjected to disruptions are more likely to suffer from lower memory capability and are prone to developing mental health trouble in old age. We exist in an over communicated time and it is important that you are aware of the issues this causes before you start working remotely. When working remotely you have to do everything feasible to mitigate the jeopardy of being distracted.

Here are things that really do work:

1, Get a consistent schedule, tell everyone about it and obsessively maintain it!

Good examples are a fixed time of day when you review or send electronic mail and make or be available for phone conversatiions. Before I began working remotely I used to receive in the region of hundreds of e-mails over a period of twenty four hours. Now I think I am unfortunate if I get over five. To start over with my electronic mail experience I modified my e-mail address and obsessively took steps to protect the details being made known to anyone. I then made sure everyone who I gave my e-mail address to, to use it wisely and sparingly. I also created an automatic reply that swiftly informed anyone sending me mail my routine for processing mail and if an item should have my urgent consideration to mark it as ‘Urgent’.

2. Get rid of alerts.

Disable absolutely everything that can send you a interruption. This includes mobile and
conventional telephones and forms of alerts from electronic mail such as display events, audible warnings, display changes to your inbox folder and of course facing a window. Get a door on your work room and put up a ‘do not disturb’ sign on it.

In ‘Remote Working Part 3 – Must have online tools’ I will reveal my favourite tools and software.

Remote Working Part 1 – Start here

Quickbooks online

Obviously not everybody is able to work remotely as many types of employment require workers to be at their employers premises or travel to perform their duties in person. Remote Working Part 1 – How to guide – Introduction

Quickbooks online edition

Obviously not all of us can work remotely as some vocations require individuals to go to their office or travel to undertake their work face to face. But for those of us who are able to work remotely then I thought it would be useful to share what I have learned and share some practical guidance by distributing it on the web with the sole objective of providing helpful timesavers for adapting to remote working or supervising remote workers.

I must tell you you that there are groups of so called ’experts’ out there who will try and persuade you to purchase guides for significant sums of cash, trust me you don’t have to do this.

I am fortunate to be allowed to work anywhere I choose and just about everyone who asks me what I do for a living wants to learn how I manage to work remotely. Don’t be mislead here I am still learning about the science of remote working as each day I encounter tribes on the Internet who teach me new approaches and I am repeatedly coming across new packages and processes that make my life easier and make me more efficient.

Over the past seven years I have immensely adapted my working practices to let me to do the majority of my work remotely with a kit of internet tools and rigid self discipline. One day whilst exploring the web I uncovered Quickbooks online and this got me thinking about what just might be possible. The encounter with ’cloud’ based ‘on demand’ small business accounting software was a special moment for me and the beginning of my ‘remote working life.

I should inform you up front that efficiently working remotely is as much about the tools as it is about self discipline. Working remotely also means telling your co-workers, supervisors and customers as to what they can expect and how they will interact with you.

In ‘Remote Working Part 2 – Why self discipline is important’ I steer you through how to focus.

3 Easy Ways to Make Money From Home on the Internet

Make Money at Home Using a Free Blog

There are many ways to make money on line. Whether you are selling products or service, your success will be determined by your ability to get interested people to visit your website. We refer to these visitors as targeted traffic.

Create a website – Your first task is to learn to create a simple one page website. It is one of the most important things to learn and it is easier than you think. You just need to learn a few simple key skills, it is not necessary to be a web designer or anything like that.

List building – The old saying “the money is in the list” is certainly true. List building is the best way to make money on-line by offering a free report of value through the use of an opt-in form. Using email marketing you can then gain your subscribers their trust with free information and gifts.

Generate traffic – When you first start you should really only be thinking of free or low cost traffic to your site. There are a lot of methods at your disposal that are free. A good place to start is article marketing and free ads.

The second way is almost the same, however, in this way you don’t make money by getting affiliate commissions. You show advertisements of different websites on your website, and the more traffic your website gets, the more click-through rate you’ll have, hence making you maximum money. Therefore, you get paid for impressions and clicks.

This usually works by integrating Ad Networks like Adsense on the website, then hitting a big-timer. This type of way has the least risk involved and the highest chances from little to a lot of success. It is something which has brought people from pennies to big money stacks.

Good business practise – Cloud Computing

NetSuite Pricing

All of the technology and business contacts I regularly talk to keep talking about cloud computing. But what is it, what does it really mean for business and what are the monetary and tangible benefits?

Cloud means Internet. The computing is done on the Internet – in place of the software you use being installed on your computer, it’s hosted on the Internet on a server installed in a data centre commonly staffed by people who are skilled in managing technology. This type of “cloud” software is commonly known as “on demand” or Software as a Service (SaaS).

Some good examples of popular Software as a Service are:

Web based CRM Software (Customer Relationship Management) – Salesforce.com pricing about $9 per user/month.
Small business management and accounting software (small business ERP) – Salesorder.com pricing $45 per user/month.
Medium sized business ERP software – NetSuite pricing approximately $99 per user/month.

There are three substantial benefits for every business here:

Time, cost savings and reliability

Businesses no longer require a resident IT expert to help them choose, commission and manage the technology platform thus pushing down operating expenses and time to implement. The effort of regularly backing up information is taken away as this is almost always an inherent function of the “cloud” software. Cloud software “operators” normally have stand by systems that can be switched on in seconds should a disruptive issue occur.

Easier selection and more choice

With just a web browser, businesses now have immediate access to a massive choice of business software they can in most cases immediately evaluate and swiftly establish if the software suits their needs at zero cost. This makes it effective for people in large enterprises to circumvent the usual information technology buying processes and easily evaluate and justify their business proposal.

Better user experience

The web provides immediate feedback to system architects and has led to substantial progress in user interface design resulting in more intuitive software thus decreasing learning times and increasing user satisfaction. This of course means faster adoption and better productivity.

Small business consulting – advanced technique (internet)

small business consulting

I manage an internet company that supplies help in the form of small business management and accounting software tools and know-how to thousands of startups and small businesses around the planet and whenever I explain to people what I do, I repetitively get asked the same question “Given my working knowledge, how could I apply it and make earn cash quickly from small business consulting? I’m always willing to give guidance as I am fortunate enough to spend the biggest part of my day interacting with small business owners and staff who are always willing to discuss their challenges.

Here is my response:

The internet is a great place for finding customers and it makes it straightforward to interact with them and sell your expertise. A lot of small businesses turn to the internet to find knowledge or trusted advisors who can provide them with wisdom and help them identify and solve issues.

Information marketing – repurpose and sell your expertise to small businesses everywhere via the net

What I discuss here is equally appropriate to businesses of any size. You can repackage and sell your expertise in a digital format such as video, audio or documents. The tools to create professional standard material are readily available on the net. Making a series of lessons in simple to use digital formats is now straight forward and doesn’t cost much to do. You just have to be prepared to spend a little time getting to know the systems. The objective here is to produce [content.

Commence by determining your overall goal. Consultancy and Information marketing are great bedfellows and if you do both can be very provide a substantial income as the consultancy will provide you with the questions, the answers to which repurpose for sale through the internet and sold over and over again.

If you are starting from scratch with no customers but have expertise you know would be attractive to others then plan to create a two minute video to present yourself and your expertise to your prospect(s). Unless you know the potential client(s) precise problem then make the video generic and usethe following format – S.T.A.R (Situation or Task, Action, Result). Keep it short, interesting and sweet. Now upload the video to your website/blog or even YouTube if you don’t have the former and send the target(s) an invitation by e-mail containing a personal message and a link to the video. Always follow this up with a phone call. If you know the specific nature of the prospect(s)problem then don’t make the video public, just put it somewhere privateon the Web or even on a disk and post it, again follow up with a call.

This approach is ideally suited to situations where you are individually targeting market. You should always focus on growing a list you can interact with and make sales to. Consistent interaction with your list will reveal peoples needs that will help you define what to sell. The bigger your list the more opportunities for consulating and selling information products you will unearth. If you would like to discover more about how to do this then click on any of the links in this article. I would be delighted to help you.

Disaster Recovery with Online Backups

Recovering from Disaster with Internet Backups

Data recovery has become a hot topic these days. With information being the lifeblood of business finding the right backup for your business has become all important.

But before we can start discussing why offsite backups are the best way in which you can recover your lost data, let us look at the most common causes of data loss.

The most common thing that makes people lose data is when their hardware fails them. There is a reason why many hardware manufacturers have reduced their warranties from 36 months to 12 months. These days, hardware failure has become the norm. There are many reasons for this but the point is that your hardware isn’t going to last forever. Backing up is too important to simply think you can do something else first. Instead, you should always be prepared if bad things happen.

The second most common thing that causes data loss is human error. Human error is the result of the normal human tendancy to make mistakes at the worst possible time… like deleting a file accidently. This is to be expected since many people do things by wrote and can easily make a mistake and lose an essential file.

The third most common cause is software corruption. Software corruption includes PC viruses, programming errors and application crashes. Software crashes happen, and crafty virus writers are finding ways to defeat your anti-virus software. You just can’t predict a systems crash or virus infection any more than you can predict an earthquake. But having your backups easily available to you is important.

The fourth most common cause is through natural disasters. Weather and fire are prime examples of how you can lose data. These are the two major types of disaster which illustrates why having an offsite backup is so important.

The advantage that you can gain when you utilize online backup services like OPENRSM Cloud Backup is that it can handle all the above mentioned causes.

Since it is online, you do not have to worry about hardware problems. It doessn’t matter that you have Linux, Windows, or MACS (or all three) An internet connection is all you need to backup your files offsite.

Also, since the data is stored securely, you can be assured that whatever natural disaster hits your office, you can easily recover your data anytime that you want. You only need an internet connection, your username/password combo.. And your data is instantly available to you. Also, your data is available to you anytime day or night.

Financial controls every business must have

small business accounting software

A substantial portion of the day of every business manager is spent dealing with problems. Siginificant business problems have a really nasty habit of happening with the most unfortunate timing. Discovering all of the problems you have to solve is a really difficult task. I cannot see how any manager can be worthy of this title if they are not a good problem solver.

Well thought through financial controls are essential to every business. Think of financial controls as a sentries that sound the alarm when a financial problem occurs. small business accounting software will help you generate the reports you need to implement good financial controls. It is critical that you can create reports using small business accounting software that let you examine the differences between planned and actuals in focus areas such as cash flow, expenses and revenue. Begin by identifying a minimal group of numbers and relationships that you need to monitor and then design your accounting or financial reports to present these critical factors in the right format.

Always monitor the margins on the items that you sell and as soon as you detect any changes in their values you should take steps to understand why this is happening and bring it under control. Volume sales operations are particularly sensitive to changes in margins as losses can multiply quickly and therefore it is vital that you monitor both the changes in margin and volumes. You must monitor fixed expenses closely especially at the outset of the financial year and always make sure they are in line with your plan. Debtors collections should be monitored closely, the best way to do this is to run reports that highlight the average number of days it takes to collect payments (small business accounting software is particularly adept at this.

Experience is the way to learn and over time you will learn which financial controls should be highlighted in your accounting reports, just make sure you have the right small business accounting software that can generate these.
